Diva (little cat feet)
Cats change the landscape of plans.
When orphaned Diva poked her head
out of hiding, a loving thread
filtered from her heart to ours.
She sniffs shoes, jumps at
her own shadow, eats bread crumbs
off the kitchen floor. She defies
gravity, leaping from carpet
to couch back with ease at 11 years.
She salts us with the reality that
we are parents again.
Her soft breath, her purr,
sends me into blissout mode.
We all sense the sea change
and we love it.

For The Sunday Whirl (see Wordle HERE); also in the margins at Poets United and Imaginary Garden With Real Toads. We adopted Diva this week, and she’s a vocal little old girl whose “daddy” died suddenly… she’s grieving, plus she was scared by two of the man’s daughter’s more aggressive cats. Still a bit hand shy, she will climb up on my lap (when she’s ready) and purr… sounds of the heart. Peace, Amy

Kittens or cats generally can be mesmerizing. Their purring softens the heart! One can never be alone. But cats besides chickens are the most difficult to train. Good as a companion but not to ‘deliver’ ‘papers or slippers! Great take Amelita!

Good thing I only read the paper for free at the cafe… and walk around barefoot! She is trained to… come when I yell “Foodies!” But she voluntarily sits on my lap and gives me lovin, rubbing my face. She also has a rather awkward fascination with my breasts; she sort of plumps them like they’re going to give her something. I tried to tell her it’s the Sahara in there, but she’s tenacious, ha ha. Thx, Hank! Amelita

She will work you out in no time and soon will be ruler of the roost. Her eyes are stunning.

Oh, she’s already got us both trained! Glad it’s not the other way around, right? Herding cats, impossible. Herding CAT, equally impossible! Haha. Amy

Nothing like ‘new life’ in one’s midst to change one’s landscape. A very lucky (and beautiful) cat!

Oh, Mary, I knew you’d get this one. It’s true… so much of missing Riley, we needed some new life in the house, someone to care for, who’s 100% pure love. Thanks, Amy

This is wonderful, Amy, Thank you for taking Diva in…it sounds like she landed in the right place. You are building good karma, too. Love it.

I think she’s also building good karma… I told her temp. owner we would only take her if she liked US. Not because she’s pretty, etc., but because she had the heart to love us back and accept us, that’s why she’s here. And yes, a jazz singer getting a cat named ‘Diva’ is definitely fate! Coming to your blog now, and thanks for the Wordle, Amy

I am glad she has you. There is nothing more comforting than a cat’s purr…

McGuffy, as I told Brenda, it was all about her wanting us that made the final decision. She’s on my lap now, loves the other purr of the computer! Thanks so much, and I’m coming to your blog now! Amy

Cats always choose their owner. It is their nature, and one thing I love about them. Dogs are different, but I love them for their ways.

Well, McG, she’s been with us a week now and has decided to keep us! It’s true, they have a very different nature from dogs, but I love both for who and what they are. And I’m a sucker for a shelter cat… don’t care for “breeds.” Inbred and sickly, often… Amy

She’s already on my lap craving “chinny chins,” those scratches under the jawline. Do you think adding catnip to the laundry helped? (Just kidding, but I did catnip her old toys so she’d recognize them as hers here… so much for her to get used to, including us!) She is some cat for 11, let me tell you. Jumps like nobody’s business if you put a cat treat up her “cat tree.”

Yeah, I’ve had your number for a long while, Sara!! Thanks so much. I know people are always suckers for their animal friends, but this old girl has come to us late in life, and we are hopeful we’ll know her a long while. Coming to see you now! Amy
