SO MUCH MORE
Love is not best expressed
through sex, yet sex sells
on the squawk box. From
VH1 videos to BET, you
can bet our youth are so
deprived of anything more
thank the depravity of the
booty call. Of women as
moving, bump and grinding
blow-up dolls. Of men with
faces only a mother could
love, whether country stars
(ten-gallon disguising their
hair plugs and plaiding their
paunches), Promise Keeping
Brothers who still leer at
the camera, or rappers who
pull teeth in favor of diamond
implants. These images imbed
like a cancer; only one answer:
The parental counter-punch.
Demonstrating healthy, loving
relationships. Turn off the
TV and unplug the modem;
talk about what lies beyond
the birds and the bees. Soul.
Spiritual bonding. Looking
your partner in the eye, not
sneaking peeks at anatomy.
Friendship first; hormones in
harness; self-esteem before
chasing the false, fleeting
dreams of sexy steam.
Debbie
You did TWO poems today. Okay . . .better go get busy. 🙂 Thanks, Amy, for posting your work. I love your style and I need to read good poetry in order to write anything. God bless!

Actually, just posted another one… don’t worry, it’s about quality, not quantity. Also, as a person who does not work outside the home, I have more time to spare to commune with the Spirit and listen for a poem…
Blessings to you, too, Debbie, and thanks. Amy

Oh so well expressed and so true! Awesome, Amy!

Thanks, Sherry. I want to subscribe to your blog. How do I do it?
I used to keep a bunch of condoms on the counter in the kitchen. Any and all of Riley’s friends were free to take them. I also told the girls, “Don’t you DARE tell your boyfriend you are on birth control pills, because they will use that as an excuse to “skip the raincoat,” thereby exposing them to even more in the way of disease. I wasn’t promoting teenage sex – no one got a condom without a real talking to from yours truly about the bigger picture, what I wrote in the poem. But, if they still insisted on having sex, I frowned and gave them a condom, saying, “Don’t use the ones from Planned Parenthood. They are donated and don’t have spermicide!”
Hey, SOMEbody has to say this stuff, right? Ha ha, love, Amy

Miriam and I spent the first five months just talking and being together before sex came into the picture. It was all about who we were as people, not just anatomy.

Same with me and Lex. We were friends, with no intention of being more. In fact, he was seeing someone else and we only starting thinking about romance a few months later. Slow and steady wins the race, for all four of us!! Amy
