At the Poets United Thursday Think Tank, we were asked to put forth a poem about forgiveness…
MAKING AMENDS
Humbly consider your own part
in whatever caused the rift
Take a breath before you start
Don’t allow your words to drift
Take the blame for your wrongdoing
Let the person hear your sin
Silence, key to real renewing
God forgiving, God within
This time may not seal the deal
ending in a warm embrace
But if you want the wounds to heal
You’re started at the perfect place

Thanks, Michael. Will wander over and see what you came up with! Amy
Debbie
Love the poem! Amy, you are a writing powerhouse! 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Wow, thanks, Debbie. I like to think we are all powerhouses – each with a unique style, worldview. I know of few poets in our network who just slap-dash something onto the page to get a post in. If you EVER catch me “phoning it in,” let me know. I’m serious!
Hope you are having a peaceful Advent, Amy
Mehreen
I really like this one. I’m an advocate of the idea you talk of here. Good one!

Thanks so much, Mehreen. Our styles are different, but our hearts are surprisingly the same! See you soon, peace, Amy

Good one, Amy:)

Thanks, Sherry. I only wish some slights were as easy to forgive as this distillation makes them sound… some wounds go so deep… A.

In recent years, I have engaged in a lot of forgiveness when it comes to my family. We had a lot of acrimony when I was growing up and I hung on to a lot of bitterness. Fortunately, I have let most of that go and I’m working on the rest. Good stuff as always. Brett

Isn’t forgiveness the hardest? And, conversely, as Elton John said (actually Bernie Taupin!), “Sorry seems to be the hardest word.”
