Off-prompt today… soothing thoughts from the sickbed of yours truly… and it’s written in one of the few forms I have been able to capture with any sense of satisfaction – the shadorma. Peace, Amy
Late At Night (a shadorma)
Late at night
A fine resting place
‘neath the stars
on soft grass
bathed in moonlight still spilling
silver on the field

I like It. Feel better soon. Enjoy what you can for the holidays.

Ah Amy sweeeeet shadorma…. sounds like a blessing in itself ….rest, relax, recharge and let your body heal itself…. 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
This was actually written as the moon was peeking through my blinds! Amy
Mary
This shadorma is truly magical, Amy! And hope you will feel better very soon. I hope you will look at my today’s poem. I would be interested in your input.
Sharp Little Pencil
I did look at “Prayer” and commented, probably at more length than I intended. But I’m a person who prays only for patience. Not healing, never money matters, and on behalf of others, patience and comfort. It’s the best I can do, because the world is SO damned random and cruel at times. More at your blog = and thanks, Amy
Debbie
This was very soothing! Thank you . . .I needed that too. Sorry you are still sick though! Will look up shadorma’s to see what they are. 🙂 and pray for you healing and health.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks for all of this, Debbie. Prayers are indeed welcome, but I’m just about done with this cycle of illness, hurray! Amy
Amanda
wow this is so lovely and Shadorma has really taken off it was one shot Wednesday that got us started on this was it not? Anyway this one of the loveliest I have read so far!
Sharp Little Pencil
Wow, maybe I should post this to One Shot = sort of fell off my radar during April. One of the few poetic forms I employ… there’s something about the rhythm that suits me. Thanks very much, Amanda! Amy

Ooooh….I like this, Amy! “…bathed in moonlight still spilling silver on the field…” what a beautiful line!!
Praying for you to feel better SOON! Have a blessed Easter.

Paula, although I was still too sick to attend church (bummer, missed Lex’s first Easter sermon at our new church), I am feeling much better, thanks.
And everybody liked that line in particular… including me! Ha! My favorite phrase I’ve conjured in a long while, so thanks! Peace, Amy
Carl
For all my study, I had never heard of shadorma before. Thanks for another revelation on a day to celebrate new life!
Peace to you.

There is a side link on Poetic Asides that lists a bunch of forms. Robert Lee Brewer describes them well and provides links to examples. Check it out! I think on the list it’s, “Poetic Forms,” including the sonnet, the fibonacci, various haiku… lots of great stuff.
And yes, if you learn something new every day, you’ll never grow old! Thanks, Carl. Amy
Alice Audrey
Very well done. It could be a Sunday 160.
Sharp Little Pencil
What’s a Sunday 160? Forgive my ignorance! Thanks, Alice. Amy

🙂 The more I read shadormas, the more I like them!
This reminds me of so many beautiful nights in fields by lakes or camping or just lying in a farmer’s field in the middle of nowhere stargazing and moon-watching.
Sharp Little Pencil
Yes, I was ready for bed and the moon caught my eye… Thanks!
Tilly Bud
That’s pretty 🙂

Shadorma?
Never heard of it!
Looked it up
Gave a try
I’ll be better at it soon
If I practice it.
Sharp Little Pencil
You so funny, Mr. Shadorma Reply Guy. I swear, I still have to count the syllables on my fingers!! Amy
Jae Rose
But silver shines..and your words shine..even when poorly..I loved this piece Amy. Made me feel comforted and warm..night can be magical..hope you feel better soon..Jae 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Jae. I’m almost OK to go outside! But I missed Easter services, not a big deal except that this was Lex’s first Easter preaching in a new church… darn.

Delightful poem Amy. Late night under a dreamy moon, or very early morning waiting for the rising sun to burn off the mist – my two favourite times of day. Happy Easter – again.
Sharp Little Pencil
Both times of day work for me, although I confess to seeing more of the former and too few of the latter! Happy Easter to you, too, Leigh. Amy

Very nice little offering, filled with emotion and wonder. Amazing what the mind does when you aren’t completely right with your health. Get better, always enjoyed your offerings and if something drastic happens, I would be a little more than upset! Take care!
Sharp Little Pencil
So true, Leif. Nothing drastic here, but I was a little buzzy and fried from illness, which seemed to open a portal. Strange how that works, huh? Amy
Lilibeth
I love the moonlight still spilling silver on the field…and I can almost feel the night air and smell the grass.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks so much, Lilibeth, and bless you for stopping by! Amy
Jingle

Happy Sunday.
You Rock!
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Jingle, and right back atcha!

Amy: Beautiful poem.
“Soothing thoughts from the sickbed of yours truly.”
Sorry to learn you’re not well. All the best, Berowne.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, dear friend. Funny how illness can “free your mind” in this way. We’ve all been talking about that peculiar gift of the sickbed… Amy
Old Egg
Hello Amy, get well soon. Not being a poet I had to check on the correct form of a shadorma. I loved it and having you posting on Sunday Scribblings I was itching for you to change ‘spilling’ to ‘shining’!
Sharp Little Pencil
Robin, funny, I actually considered it, but I decided not to alter the wording, since “spilling” is a more active verb, you know? Temptation is always there, I know, to get the poem on more sites, but oh well… thanks for thinking of me! And I am getting better! Amy
Mr. Walker
A delightful little poem – and the shadorma form fits it nicely.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks so much, Richard. You know how infrequently I employ forms, but this simply fit. I don’t like having to “force” syllables or thoughts into a box, yet I adore so many others who regularly use forms (especially Joseph Harker, Sal Buttacci, RJ Clarken, Sara Gwen, De Jackson, and others), the discipline with which they pursue poetic forms…

This makes a beautiful image of night. I feel like I’m on a camping trip far from the city.
Mike
Sharp Little Pencil
Oh, what a delightful thought. I’m more the “cabin with accouterments far from the city” type, but I get your vibe!! Amy
ladynimue
very beautiful !!
could imagine you smiling there 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks so much, Nimue. Are you doing better? I’ll have to bop over to your blog and see if you have been able to post. And yes, I am smiling there! A
Kim Nelson
I see it, feel the dew on my skin, hear the night birds sing. Evocative!
Feeling better?
