An Unquiet Mind
Virginia Woolf
catching life by the throat
time and again
An unquiet mind:
Dark star, wings of madness
Tender at the bone
The words, the testament.
Far from the madding crowd
the shallows,
weeping waters

All titles of books from my shelves – everything from “the” book on manic depression (An Unquiet Mind) to volumes on religion, collections of poetry, and my favorite book: Time and Again by Jack Finney. For the Books On Your Shelf prompt at Rhymes With Tao. Also at my poetic place for peace of mind, for creativy, Poets United. Peace, Amy

Oh my Amy . . .I loved this totally. What a poem!

Thanks, Debbie. The form was quite a challenge! Amy

I’ve read them all as well. You capture the essence in three little stanzas. Masterful, Amy.

Kim, I’m so glad I am among readers on the blogs. It’s becoming a lost art. My daughter is a voracious reader of all types of fiction and non-fiction. Wasn’t this an unusual challenge? I’m coming your way to see if you took it up. Peace, Amy

Well… wow! I love your titles. If I hadn’t known this was a spine poem, I’m not sure I would have tumbled to this being a construct poem. Time and Again = fabulous. I take my copy with me wherever we move.

Margo, somehow I’m not surprised you’re a “Time and Again” fan. I’ve given away many copies… couldn’t work “Winter’s Tale” by Mark Halprin into this, a shame… another gem! And thanks for the comment about not spotting the spine poem form right off the bat. That’s truly gratifying, as this was my first attempt at the form, and forms are not my strong suit… Peace, Amy
Yousei Hime
Very nice. 🙂 I should definitely add Woolf to my bookshelf, and for spine poetry as well as reading.

Yousei, thanks for stopping by! Yeah, Woolf can be a challenge to read, some is quite dense. But Mrs. Dalloway is one I come back to again and again… I’ll come over and see what you’re up to! Peace, Amy
Lindy Lee
Very good, SharpLittlePencil, nice composite of titles for “Unquiet Mind”…

Thanks, Lindy. It began with that thought, and then my favorite, Virginia Woolf, was set in motion toward that fateful day on the river… Peace, Amy
