SCREWED OVER AGAIN (a shadorma)
She seems fine
Beneath the surface
heartbroken
and punctured
He dug deep in his toolbox
Used piercing hardware

Imaginary Garden with Read Toads asked for a shadorma based on one of many photos by talented photographer Jaime Clark, who graciously allowed all toads (!) to use on our blogs. Hooray for sharing! I’ll return the favor with a link to Jaime’s site below. This is, as always, also posted at my poetic woodshop, Poets United. Peace, Amy

its a whole different story once you get below the surface….

You’re right! We were definitely on the same wavelength with this one! Sometimes things are more interesting beneath the surface.

Yes, I wonder about how screwed over (or screwed up) we are below the surface. Article in the NY Times re Colorado shooter – sorry, ALLEGED Colorado shooter: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/27/us/before-gunfire-in-colorado-theater-hints-of-bad-news-about-james-holmes.html

Yikes! Piercing is always one of those words that makes me cringe. Great take on the prompt-those inner layers 🙂

Again…that doesn’t seem to be the best situation ~ Nice take ~

Strong writing here, Amy! As Grace said…doesn’t sound ideal!

This is such an excellent use of the form. I like the added impact achieved by separating it into 3 stanzas. Of course, the multiple readings of the final lines adds shock value on its own. Very cool poem. Thanks for your participation and your comments on Real Toads. Appreciated.
El Guapo
Ouch. Second stanza is very vivid!

Ouch! Been there. I definitely “felt” this poem!!!! Amy, I love how you always mention Poets United in your posts. That always warms my heart and makes me smile. Thank you. I love that place too. It opened up the world to me.

Perfect pairing with the photo – and all to true in real life.
purplepeninportland
Excellent artwork and matching poem.
Susan
Beneath the surface things are not fine! And it seems he punctured her deliberately! Grrr
Bodhirose
Oh, gosh…he dug deeper to inflict more “punctures.” Malicious and cruel…

Imaginative !!!

Meaningful Shadorma full of metaphors about VAW; very well written, Amy.
