Certain Seafood
I love me a fresh-caught fish
If it’s farmed, it’s not delish
Salmon! Salmon! Now you’re jammin’!
Halibut will stave off famine
Lobster steaming on the plate
Melted butter, that is great
But if it had a suction cup
Just the thought and I throw up
Octopus, call it calamari
But to me it’s “run-a very far-y”
Don’t even think to serve me squid
You will see me flip my lid
Please don’t serve me suction-cup seafood
Gives me willies. It’s not “me” food

Just a little doggerel for Imaginary Garden With Real Toads’ “fish” prompt! And it’s true. Even looking at octopus, especially raw, gives me the sensation that my teeth are falling out of their gums. Somewhere between phobia and gross-out. What’s your fish/seafood pet peeve? Anything give you the willies? Let me know in comments! Peace (and melted butter for the lobster), Amy
This is also in the “right margin” at Poets United, my other poetic fish tank. Peace, Amy

ph i am looking forward to some fresh seafood….just leaving to go to baltimore for 4-5 days….i have yet to find a seafood that grosses me out….except eating the live octopuses in korea…the tentacles grabbing your nose as you bite into them is just too much for me…
have a great weekend

Oh, Brian, thanks for leaving me with an image that will haunt me all night, EEEEEEW! (wink) Baltimore, home of John Waters. Hope to get there someday, have fun! Amy

How about some sushi?
Sharp Little Pencil
Used to love it, especially sashimi tuna… but contracted a parasite from a bad sushi place. Felt like a burning tire was hanging around my waist, so I quit raw fish and now enjoy vegetarian sushi just fine! The important thing is the balance of wasabi, tamari, and ginger. Thanks for coming by – on my way to your blog now! Amy
Leslie Sahlen
Hola my darling Amy!
For days you’ve been in my thoughts. The litte non-denom church here is looking for a new pastor and also lost their pianist AND singer. Rather large congregation in the snowbird months. .Really nice folks. By chance are you and your esposo looking for a change? My US cell # (no roaming in Mexico) is 702 525-3651. Love you.

Leslie, if we were not so settled here and so happy with our UCC church in Madison, that would be awwwwwfully tempting, and thanks so much for thinking about both of us. I will call you over the weekend, OK?
Meantime, pop open a cold one for me, and remember, whatever we do, Michael and Kenny are watching over us. So glad you stopped by my blog, hon.

You’ve Scaled the heights with your fish tail!
I give it a whole-hearted en-dorsal-ment!

Ugh. I mean glug! Your crappie comment baited that response… I wrote it just for the halibut! AMy

I love the fun element of this poem, Amy, and it has darn fine rhythm!
Sharp Little Pencil
Why, thanky, ma’am! Glad you liked it 😉

Mmmmmmm. I loves me some calamari. (Sorry.) 😉
I don’t, however, like anything served with a head. I realize the food chain exists, and truly believe God gave us animals as food, but I don’t want my lunch leering at me.
Love this, Amy. Thanks for the laugh.

Except for the suction cup fellas and pork (I know what they eat, eeewww), I’m an omnivore. And even if I was a veggie or vegan or fruitarian (the Far Right of the dietary alliance!), I’d never tell anyone not to eat something they like – my ex was very holier-than-thou about food, and a day later he’d be scarfing down Cheetos!
I feel the same about the head. Reminds me of the “Christmas Story” and the Thanksgiving Chinese turkey! Amy

I love seafood, but some of the molluscs are disgusting! Your little poem suits me just fine.
Sharp Little Pencil
Ha ha, I forgot to include mussels on my list. When you said “mollusks,” it came back in one sickening flash! Thanks, Viv, A

Mussels are lovely – it’s things like whelks and oysters that I can’t cope with.
Sharp Little Pencil
Oyster, schmoyster, yuck. Whelks, never confronted, but I’m sure I’d agree with you!! Picky eater, I am.

Great doggerel, Amy. I love it!

So glad you liked this, Kay. Coming over… I’m having an “unfitty” day today! Amy

Your talking all my favorite types of seafood here !!! How could I not love this poetical didley ?? The only thing you are missing here is my all time #1 favorite, which is SMOKED SABLE !!! Thanks for making me super hungry !!!
Sharp Little Pencil
Smoked Sable? I had to Google it, because I’d only ever heard of smoked SALMON. I almost commented that you had it wrong, now wouldn’t that have been impertinent? I tell you, readers teach me a new thing every day. Love your response. Amy
Pamela
I agree with you 100 and 10 percent here, Amelita. Folk here love it and *have* tried to serve it to me prepared every which way, but Sunday. It still makes me want to die. I won’t partake. Yuck!
Saludos,
Pamelita

I’m glad we agree. Now when you plan your trip North (WAY north), you won’t have to worry about having anything to pry off your plate (POP!). Grossout!! Love your response, coming over now… Paz, Amelita

Very charming haha I actually like octopus alive though they are so curious and intelligent and yes creepy!
Sharp Little Pencil
Now, this is funny. I love live octopus and squid, especially in their own habitat on TV. Saw “Secrets of the Deep” and thought Joseph Cameron is going too far down into the ocean – there’s enough amazing sea life (worth saving) up top! Thanks, A

I guess snails are out of the question too…
Sharp Little Pencil
Well, Cos, I don’t eat them… never even thought of the suction cups, but I guess that’s how they get around.
Also, don’t mind any of these in real life, just on my plate! Amy

I love scallops and shrimp and crab and lobster and fish that does not taste like fish–sounds odd–but I cannot stand fishy fish or the idea of eating suction cups–I am with you (here is me toasting you with some melted butter)
Sharp Little Pencil
To you, my dear! (Holding up cup of butter and with a bit of lobster in the other hand) I also don’t like the fishy fish, like catfish. My, aren’t we the picky ones?! ha ha Amy

Amy, I’m with you 100 suction cup percent. When I was a kid, we ate a friend’s who were making Bouillabaisse–I always hung out in the kitchen, only on that day they were cutting up the little squids–Urp!! Had to leave, could not even look at dinner–blech and blech–never grew out of it
Sharp Little Pencil
Ha ha ha, never hang out in the kitchen – that way, you don’t know what you’re eating!! Grossout, for sure… A
