PEACE IS POSSIBLE (a Fibonacci)
One
mindset
among many
will cause peace
to flow all around us
like a mighty, majestic river of unfathomable love
© 2013 Amy Barlow Liberatore/Sharp Little Pencil
This is my prayer for peace, as prompted by Mary at dverse Poets. Of course, I did not make the deadline, so perhaps I will submit this for dverse Open Mic Night as well as the sidebar at Imaginary Garden With Real Toads and Poets United. And, yes, I managed a form to boot, using the word-count version of the Fibonacci Sequence (1-1-2-3-5-8).
The latest carnage in Kenya, at a mall in Nairobi, took many lives at random. And yet here in the States, gun violence continues to claim veterans, spouses, children, and people caught in the wrong place (or school) at the wrong time – also, a gun on hand means access to a fast suicide, rather than trying to reach out. The Second Amendment provided for armed militias, like the National Guard, and was conceived when one-shot muskets were the standard. I’m not against others hunting (as long as it’s for meat, not ivory), but the proliferation of high-powered rifles with huge magazines – and people with violent histories being allowed to own guns? Is Ted Nugent running for president or what? Get a grip, people. Peace, Amy

Hi Amy, Like your “koi” blog theme (my choice too). Thanks for introducing me to the Fibonacci poetry form…and for promoting peace!
Sharp Little Pencil
Wow, I introduced you to a form… now, that’s cool, because if you read my poetry, you will notice I rarely use them! As for peace, those who neglect to pray for it and work for it are missing out on the last, best opportunity for our planet…. thanks for commenting! A

A fine line, Amy:
“…mighty, majestic river of unfathomable love”–and yes, if that were attainable, some wars would not be fought.
That “Peace is Possible” is debatable, so long as Greed, Anger, Apathy, Hatred, and (Grandfather of them) PRIDE permeates our existence.
That is not to say we shouldn’t keep trying, praying, enthusiastically sharing of ideas, dreams, and philosphy with others…in other words, lose HOPE.
Thank you for being one of those who believe that peace can one day be enjoyed by all…even though at this moment there are c.200 wars going on (on earth!) right now–we just don’t hear or read about most of them.
(I’m at war with my neighbor right now over a property infringement, DAMMM!)
Bye.
PEACE and LIGHT!
Sharp Little Pencil
Steve, sorry about your neighbor. See, the need for peace isn’t just overseas. We see t every day, and your example is so perfect. I hope you can make peace and find a compromise with your neighbor, because strife builds up like tar in one’s system and causes disease. I truly believe this.
I’ve always been a “cockeyed optimist” (paging Richard Rodgers), sure that if everyone on earth gave and received one backrub each day, that sense of human touch would help foster peace. And so on and so on… Amy

I give this a 1.618 on the “Golden” Poetry scale! φ
Sharp Little Pencil
I have no mathematic scheme to relate this to, so I’m going to be optimistic and say you must have liked it, or else you would not have commented at all… Thanks, and I’m off to visit you now! Amy

Oh sorry haha 1.618 is phi or the golden ratio which is the ratio of the Fibonacci number series. This still probably means nothing haha so in English, yes I very much liked it!

I would endorse the message and love the poem and the form – nice one, Amy 🙂

how’s that Tom Petty tune go? “The waiting… is the hardest part”

Amen.

i hear you and echo…to truly seek peace we will have to make decisions that will affect our personal freedoms and that is one concession i do not think people will make…

And two guys with carry permits, in a road rage incident, managed to kill each other. It’s the frickin’ OK Corral.
Sharp Little Pencil
C’mon, Rog, work with me here…!! But you are absolutely right. How we govern is not conducive to peace. Not at all. Great comment… Amy

Is peace possible..I hope so but, I am doubtful unless attitudes change on all levels..your prayer of peace is one I hope gets answered…
Mary
That feeling of peace flowing all around us would be wonderful indeed! Oh that it would be possible to attain, Amy.

A great read. You have a very nice-looking blog. Plus, I love the name!
Best,
Ana
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Ana. The theme is called Koi. I love the sepia tones.
Now off to visit your blog, which is all I usually do…! Amy

The form of the poem enhances its impact. Great job!
One of the weaknesses of the Constitution (a document I love) is that as technology changes, Justices are left to interpret how those two centuries plus old words relate to the world of today. I’ve never seen your interpretation as stated above.
Interesting take on it.

I listen to a lot of radio (both sides – the truth lies somewhere in the middle) and read a lot of political blogs. I only wish my pebbles in the ocean were more effective… Thanks, Guap! Amy

That’s right on for peace.. and very timely..(as always)

Bravo! to you and a brilliant mind you have. 🙂

Amelita, I concur with you on this one. I happen to live in a bubble, which I am quite thankful for, but I know of the horrors that surround me in the world. Thanks for writing this.
Paz y amor,
Pamelita.

love your poem. visions of peace sustain us amid the madness perpetuated by the powerful, since the beginning of time. our fearless leaders who talk peace and drop bombs are the same monsters abusing our children. pirates and plunderers they are, and ultimately little boys who need scoldings.

Sharing your optimism:-)

Here’s hoping that we/they will give peace a chance (chant?). So tired of violence and pain. Thank you for writing of peace, it makes me smile. Love-Sara

Perfectly stated and perfectly true!
