The Autopsy
Fluids drained systematically
First cut delicate
Then deeper, probing for
what’s needed to harvest
Skin ravaged
Insides filled to the gills with pills
Pharmaceutical to the cuticle
The heart unusable, broken
The rest is flotsam
yet spoken of reverently
After all, this was once
our planet

Free write after contemplating how Wisconsin helps the fracking industry by mining and selling off the ‘perfect’ sand for piercing our earth… and collecting shale farts. Between that practice and the damned Pipeline, how do lowly wind/solar advocates stand a chance? We are muted by Big Money. Peace, Amy

Indeed.. what we do to the earth is beyond scary.. just so we can drive our precious gaz-gusslers a little bit less expensively..

OMG I loathe the idea of fracking. The rudest poem I’ve ever written (unpublishable, I fear) is on this topic. Good one, Amy. This subject does not call for restraint.

Your ending was unexpected and after reading through again…wow…spot-on…so disturbing…thank you Amy for giving this voice…now I’m off to read your WWP offering. 😉
Hannah Gosselin
Oh, sorry I didn’t see the WWP tag here so I thought it was something else all the while thinking it DOES fit the measured loss call…well done, Amy. 🙂
Laurie Kolp
Hi, Amy. You have outdone yourself again, writing on such topics so effectively. Great poetics, too.

Great write Amelita! Great, for bringing it out in the open! The lure or rather the greed for big money tends to override everything else and politicians are convenient conduits. Mother Earth has to put up to a lot of challenges!

A great read and then the kapow! kicker closing lines which turns the reader on her ear and makes her think. Really well done, Amy!

it was once…now it is owned and we are just living here
at the whim of those whose money slicks the pockets
of the power brokers we put in office…
tight little bit of awareness amy

Neat turn at the end that makes the reader stop and think. I always appreciate your commentary too- muted by big money – yes, that is so right, in all sorts of ways.

Interesting poem. I cannot advocate the wind turbines, though. They are extremely dangerous for birds. They attract them, and then kill them. Birds don’t understand. Heck, it is hard for humans to. The turbines are eyesores, too…hundreds for miles….just sitting there silent usually. I see them when I go trucking with Bill. I see a lot…too much…

Great piece Amy! I am not a conspiricist as such, but the pieces are all clicking together nicely, if you take the trouble to look. The ‘one percenters’ are winning hands down, and their latest ‘resources grab’ is taking place in the Ukraine right now, with the aid of the USA/EU/Nato. One should try to understand Putin, and Russia’s point of view – history is on their side.

I should link to this on Earth Day!

Dynamite ending!

Oh this is painful. I have been signing every petition and letter to stop the fracking craziness. Our society is an addict of the worst kind on that black greasy stuff. Now they’re arresting people in Texas for living off the grid (and it turns out its illegal in my adopted home state too–though I shouldn’t be surprised–chads anyone?)..my heart is hurting. Thank you for the beautiful bubbly comment on my blog–Hugs!
