STUDIO QUANDARY
Not what I thought I’d paint this day
Not at all, the dizzying colors and
figures from last night’s dream
I tossed the covers
Stirred the maid from her rest
Even woke my wife in the next room
A dragon gave chase and I
was naked screaming running
Bare and barely missing his fiery, explosive tongue
Now the dream is slowing settling on wood
The creature and my whirling flaccid flesh
And a phrase I still don’t understand: Barney & Friends

Imaginary Garden of Real Toads gave us this Rembrandt, “Artist in His Studio.” I put myself in his cobbled boots and decided to give him a little scare… and myself a chuckle! Amy

Ha.. yes he seems a little lost and bewildered there.. why not from a nightmare (one person’s dream is another’s nightmare)

I love you! You love me! Hey…where you going? This cracked me up.
Polly
heh-heh, you made me chuckle too 😉

Love the chuckle and the implied horror of a future glimpsed peopled by purple animation ❤
Sanaa Rizvi
You certainly used some sparkling humor in this one 🙂
Beautifully executed ❤

Wicked! Clever. But wicked.

One gets the funny feeling that last night’s dreams are still cluttering the mind. More so when these were eerie or troublesome in nature. But you did it very well to present it not of a frightening poetry but in a lighter mood. Very well done Amelita!

The last line made me smile. So cool! Rembrandt and Barney. Perfect!
Kerry O'Connor
I admire the ease with which you slipped into the persona of the painter himself, and the fervour of his inspirational dream. The final line was unexpected.

🙂 🙂 How are you Amy. Haven’t been this way for quite a while .

Whoa. Careful with that grog before bed. Maybe Barney is some torrid pre-conscious hominid nightmare reality, leeched from myth to fairy tail on to ‘toon. Whatever it is, ’tis a hoot here.

That last line truly made me smile…it is good to be a little irreverent from time to time..i think that’s an element of creating a masterpiece (also love your new blog design) xo

and it was only a dream! The classic story ending………
Rembrandt is the artist most addicted to self-portraiture. If I had to paint myself that often, I too would have nightmares.

Ha – Barney is truely a menace! Good one.

I really liked the line “the dream slowing settling into word” well done!
Susie Clevenger (@wingsobutterfly)
Love it! Barney always scared/annoyed me. A fire eating dragon dumbed down to a dopey voice…

Hahahaha! This is one helluva of creator’s journey. I hope it is not so painful for you to write 🙂

What a trip!
