Insomnia never felt so good.
MOONSTUCK (Stuck, Poetic Asides prompt)
Slip of a moon, sideways smile
beguiles me from my perch
Searching for words and
lingering long past bedtime
To find the perfect phrase
Elusive, diffused thoughts race
out my ears, past my face and
Oops! Out the window back to the moon…
monthly changing yet
ever my constant companion
as I’m stuck in my room alone
awaiting the whisper of words

I’m stuck on your words. The flow of this poem is amazing. I know I read it on the website, but here it shines.:)
I also skipped down and read the Abortion Protestor poem. Even though I am and have always been pro- choice I have had feelings like this. Interesting that you are condemning the doctor and not the scum bag of a father who put her there.

Barbara! Thanks for reading another poem. Moonstuck sort of “happened” on the drive back from the psychiatrist today – Lex was driving me, it was an hour and a half trip, but the doctor is worth the mileage.
About the abortion poem: I also have always been pro-choice, and have friends and family who are rabidly opposed. They never place any blame whatsoever on the man; it’s all about the girl/woman and the mistake they feel she is making (according to their standards). So, since the assignment was putting myself in “the opposition’s shoes,” I skipped any reference to the man. But for the record – I am a strong believer in men’s responsibility in birth control matters, since it’s also a matter of avoiding STDs. Hope that explains things, and thanks for visiting – we are on the same page. Amy

Great poem, Amy. I love the way your title plays with moonstruck. Also love, whisper the words, it brings the sense of being conspiratorial with the moon.

Love the pun on the conventional “moonstruck”! Creative thoughts about the process of finding the “ah-ha” words!

Thanks, Gemma. Yeah, the title came to me first… not sure why, but I am an insufferable punster, so I guess that’s it!

Ah yes, the creative process that poets constantly suffer through “To find the perfect phrase”, you have penned the picture of our late night stickiness.
You however do not seem to have a problem finding the perfect phrase as your poems reflect both perfect phrases and almost a daily timeliness. I wish, I write, but cannot come close to the prolific writings of yours and others, but I am happy that I have you and others to read daily.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting on “A Blood Red Period” your comment means a lot to me. When I wrote the piece it wasn’t from any bad memory of my own but a placing of myself in another’s position.
Well, I’m off to checkout the poets you love. I look forward to reading your future posts.

Thanks for a thoughtful reply. That poem really resonated with me on so many levels. Women have the gift (and I truly see that as such( of bleeding, because I think we are able to slough off a lot of toxins, etc. with that process. It brings to mind a deeper meditation, more in keeping with the depth of your poem – the only Alice Cooper song I ever like, “Only Women Bleed,” dealing with abuse, with choices of whether to stay or go in a bad situation.
When you write from walking in another’s shoes, that’s truly a stretch, and I commend you for that. It’s the hardest type of poetry there is, in my opinin. Thanks for letting me know this wasn’t a situation you had faced… I would hate that, but then, I hate for anyone to face it…
I, too, am off to peruse colleagues. Have a great day, Amy

Great work as always, Amy. Upon reading your previous comment, might I recommend Lita Ford’s version of Only Women Bleed. She does a great job with the song.

Thanks, bud. I’ve only heard the original Alice Cooper version, which blew me away and gave me new respect for Cooper. But I will look up the Lita Ford version, because a woman singing that song seems like a superb idea. Thanks! Peace, Amy

I will be posting a video for Lita Ford’s version on your Facebook page. Hope you enjoy it. Brett
