At Poetic Asides, the prompt was the word “agree.”
This poem questions the ‘right/wrong’ assumptions… especially for fellow followers of the teachings of Christ.
DISAGREEABLE
This I have been called
and rightly so
for insisting that Jesus
never charged co-pays for healing
never turned away the poor
challenged us to take care of
those less fortunate than ourselves
to pray for our enemies
to accept people for who and what they are
(love your neighbor as yourself)
to never judge, pointing out another’s splinter
without inspecting the log in your own eye
to shun violence
to turn the other cheek, and
that condemning any part of God’s creation
or any person God created
is to condemn a part of God
Yeah, I’m pretty disagreeable sometimes
but I never seem to run out of friends

Powerful poem that is so very keenly on topic….if all people of faith and good will followed the teachings in which they believe we’d all be living in a far happier, peaceful world.

Pearl, it’s all about walking the walk. Too much lip service and “I’m right, you’re going to Hell” in our world. Jesus would be appalled by some of our fellow Christians, espec. those who make 23 mill and have 18 mansions and go on TV everyday crying about how the president is Muslim – like that’s a bad thing… when he’s actually United Church of Christ, my denomination!! Now there I go, judging… LOL Amy

I want to agree with disagreeable you! π And, I want to subscribe so I can keep up with what you have been up to! No disagreements to that, is there? π Thank you!

Thanks, Debbie. Your blog is so different from mine – just know what you’re getting into! I’m a pastor’s wife who’s also an LGBT activist, anti-war protester, and occasional jazz and piano bar singer, as well as gospel songwriter.
Glad to have all views on my blog, so please feel free to climb on board! Peace, Amy

Being different from each other is a good thing, right? You are infinitely interesting and full of life. Love it! π

Amen to that, sister!

Amy,
An interesting take on the prompt. It is nice to see that you in fact stand by your beliefs.

If you don’t stand up, you’ll never be counted, let alone counted on! Love, Amy
Buddah Moskowitz
I’m your friend! This was beautiful!
Interesting that you and I chose the same topic for the agreement – Jesus.
Much love love love

Buddah, you’re my brother from another mother! And it is spooky, but not so incredible, about the title – several of us this week have posted similar themes back to back, neither knowing the other was writing a similar poem. Peace, love, Amy
