Since I wrote about Barbara Stanwyck recently, I thought I’d give you one on another of my favorite stars! Peace, Amy
KATE CHILLIN’
Katharine Hepburn
deemed a house rentable
if she could take
an ice-cold shower
and come out refreshed.
She took the shower
without first informing
the real estate agent
After all, it was her decision
and she felt entitled
She’d simply emerge from the bathroom
wet towel around her fiery red hair
and say
yea
or nay

Fireblossom
Now, that’s bold. Seems you like feisty women!
Sharp Little Pencil
Hey, you and I and a lot of our fellow poets and musicians and writers are feisty women. That’s why we gravitate toward one another. I was never one for holding back when something needed to be said! And I’ll bet you’re the same… gets me into scrapes from time to time, but better to be a Fireblossom than a Shrinking Violet, right?
Peace, Amy
Debbie
You have such a wide range of topics to write about, making such interesting and inspiring works! love it!
Sharp Little Pencil
Why, thanks, Debbie. I’m all over the place, it feels like that sometimes – then I hear you pose it as a compliment and I feel better somehow. I appreciate that!
Peace, Amy
Sherry Blue Sky
Well, that is pretty interesting but….brrrrrr! I knew a First Nations elder who, as his spiritual practice, immersed himself in an icy creek first thing every morning, all year round. I can just picture the look on the realtor’s face…….I love Katherine Hepburn!
Sharp Little Pencil
Many faith paths embrace that cold dip as a spiritual wake-up call. I avoid cold water whenever possible! Had a feeling you liked Kate the Great, too!
Thanks, Sherry, and peace = Amy
Tilly Bud
Is that true? She was superb, wasn’t she?
Sharp Little Pencil
Yes, it is true. One of the quirks of the audacious Katharine Hepburn, one of my heroes. Think I have to write something about the all-but-forgotten Jean Arthur next. She was a huge star in the Capra era…
Glad you liked it, Linda! Amy
Kim Nelson
Really!? Is this so? After reading her life story years ago I developed a deep appreciation for Ms. Hepburn’s uniqueness in the world. But this story is news to me… and I like it!
I was thinking of checking out some real estate this afternoon…
Sharp Little Pencil
Don’t forget your towel, LOL. And yes, a story she used to tell on herself. She was ultimately quite practical! Amy
Dick
Not a lot of people know that. But what a neat and elegant way to find out!
Sharp Little Pencil
Thank you, Dick. She was what my mom used to call a “oner.” We’ll never see her like again…

Oh you did Kate good on this one…she would be proud….bkm
Sharp Little Pencil
Why, thanky, pardner!! She truly is one of my favorite stars, so eccentric and fun and complicated! Amy
Olivia
Amy Dear, Wonderfully written.. I am sure not many know about this!

Faith
I never knew this about her; she was quite the character, a “oner” for sure!
Sharp Little Pencil
You know, so much has been written about Hepburn, but the best stories are the ones she tells on herself. If you don’t mind some scattered, stream-of-consciousness writing that you know was NOT ghost=written, check out her memoir of making “The African Queen” – don’t know exact title, but the subtitle is something about “surviving the making of ‘The African Queen’ with Bogie and Huston,” a great book! Thanks, Faith! A
poetcolette
Awesome anecdotal poem. I remember seeing this before. Did you rework it? Loved it then, too! ;D
Sharp Little Pencil
Yes, previously appeared at P.A.; reworked. Good eye! Thanks, Colette! A
