At Sunday Scribblings, the prompt is “a thousand years.” Enjoy, and happy Sunday! Amy
A THOUSAND YEARS
A Fundie sighed
that if I died
today I’d go to hell
“How do you know
just where I’ll go;
and when we hear that bell?”
Until the “Rapture”
let us capture
what God bids us to do:
Doing justice
living kindness
and walking humbly, too
End it today?
Guess I’d say
I truly have no fears
I live as though
the earth will go
another thousand years

Happy Sunday back Amy – and what a wonderful thought trusting that even if ‘you’ had to leave today the world will keep turning and you will have a sense that all is well… ‘living kindness’ is the best we can all do…Jae 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Hey, Jae, that one would “preach all day,” as my friend Rev. Sarah used to say. Loving-kindness and living kindness are truly t he best way, you’re right!
Sherry Blue Sky
Oh, I love this, and I so hope it does, and more!
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Sherry! Here’s to the seventh generation, right?

Amy, that was AWESOME!!! Loved it! 🙂

Tracey, I LOVED your Valentine’s Day entry on your blog. Y’all had better climb on board the Tracey Train… it’s great.
Thanks so much. Peace, Amy
Ellen
I enjoyed the rhyme and the rhythm of this one. The message in the sing song meter is striking like a bell. How we all think we can do this or that later…
Great Job~
Sharp Little Pencil
Ellen, just visited your blog and sent you an email re: the post, which was delicious! Thanks so much for the thoughtful comments, Peace, Amy
Debbie
Thank you for doing what He has you do! 🙂 And thank you for yet another magical poem. Your rhythm is wonderful!
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks especially for the rhythm comment, Debbie, since I reworked it a couple of times. I’m so into free verse that finding the rhythm takes me back to my other love: songwriting.
If we all stopped to remember love, we’d be so much farther evolved in this world. Peace, Amy

What great philosophy in beautiful haiku that just zips along and holds us entranced.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, my friend – forms are not my specialty, so having a compliment on a haiku is a treasure! Take care, Amy
Christine
Wonderful rhythm to your writings today, as if it could go on a thousand years.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Christine. But if it did go on a thousand years, I’d lose all my readership, ha ha ha ha.
Appreciate your comment about rhythm, which has been cited in other comments. I am usually the Free Verse Lady, but as a songwriter, I occasionally stray back into that meter!
Will come visit you now! Peace, Amy

You and I have similar sensibilities when it comes to life and death. Live it and love it and fear not the next.
Sharp Little Pencil
Hey, it works for me. I’ve had a glimpse of the other side, both through the words of friends who’ve come out of coma and my own conversion experience. I truly believe my friend Bill’s words: Here, it’s all about the journey; there, it’s all about love. Thanks for sharing this, my friend. Amy
pamela
Amy, I must say that opening had me going.
“Doing justice
living kindness
and walking humbly, too” many stand a good
lesson in that.
Sharp Little Pencil
Pamelita, it’s true, I have relatives who think I’m gonna burn. I told them to slip some mesquite in my casket so I can smell good while i burn!! Everyone has their own viewpoint, I guess. Thanks for this, Amy
Berowne
Two dimeters and a trimeter. Very good, professional combination of rhyme and meter — enjoyable.
Sharp Little Pencil
Berowne, is that what they are called? I was just harking back to songwriting days. Some of the meter wasn’t to my satisfaction, even though the math worked out OK…. but so glad you liked it, because I love your writing. Peace, Amy

Amy – this is so quintessentially you! ☼
Sharp Little Pencil
Knew you would “get” this one, sister! I’m coming your way now… watch out! ;^) Amy
Mary
A delightful poem, Amy. I especially like the last stanza! I do wonder though if the earth WILL last that long!
Sharp Little Pencil
Dear Mary, thanks for this. I wonder if it will last that long as well, seeing as we’re doing our best to suck the dinosaurs out of the earth with ever-longer straws… and now they found lithium under Afghanistan… and I know some folks think global warming is a myth, but ask any Alaskan whose home was built on permafrost and is now in a sinkhold! But you never know, we could wise up! Right? Couldn’t we? (hemming and hawing!!!) Amy
Mehreen
wonderful! 🙂
been here after a while… you’re going great! 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Mehreen, just visited your blog and found some rooooooooomance there. Wowza! Loved it! Thanks so much for your kind comments.
Peace, Amy

Nicely said. Do what we can for the best, and just keep going.

Amen and amen. Thanks for this, Alt. Peace, Amy
Carina
Difficult to live right today if I don’t think there will be a tomorrow to worry about. I’ve always felt that way too.
Sharp Little Pencil
Oh, yeah, I’m a big “thousand years” advocate. That’s why I’m an activist! Tryin’ to keep it goin’ for the seven generations to come… and more! Thanks for coming by, Carina, I’ll check out your blog! Peace, Amy
contemplativemoorings
I like the profundity in your writings…shall read more 🙂

Subscribed to your blog, Michael. Thank you for the compliment! Peace, Amy
Riles
You know I love everything you write, but tonight, while trying to compile/create this portfolio and feeling less than optimistic, I was so struck by the last two stanzas. It was really beautiful.
Sharp Little Pencil
Riley, I am so touched that you would comment here – and that my words helped you in your time of need. Thanks, honey. Love, me
