And now for something completely different, song lyrics. You can hear the song at my music link below (sorry, can’t upload it here.)
Hope you like it! Amy
Tioga Moon (free listen at amybarlowliberatore.com – my music site)
Tioga moon starts her song around eight
High above the maple, the color of marmalade
Spills on the rooftops and dances on the dewdrops
And drenches all the sumac in the glade…
Tioga moon, shining clear and bright
Tioga moon, shining on you tonight
When Cape Cod gets colder
and chills your shoulder,
that old Tioga moon will keep you in her sight
Oh, say…
when the gardenin’s done today
let’s escape the sun, and
run off to a place I know
where there’s shade
a little glade where the jack-in-the-pulpit grows
And then…
we’ll linger on ‘til after ten(derly you’ll call my name)
And then we’ll start to whisperin’ low
While the owls’ eyes and the fireflies
put on their show
Tioga moon, like a big brass bowl
Tioga moon shines like a prophet’s soul
When Buffalo winds blow
snow through your window
that old Tioga moon will make your insides glow
(repeat last chorus)
So stay well, sleep warm;
when the cold starts to bite,
that old Tioga moon will be your blanket tonight.

You ARE a song. This was great, Amy. 🙂 I love music. No musical talent, but I love it. Thank you so much for sharing your song and you singing it!

Amy, I loved your rendition of this. Felt like I was right there in the club with you, tapping my feet and singing along.
You have a great voice. Thanks for “Tioga Moon”.
Congrats also on the publication. Very well deserved!
(Thanks for the lovely comment over at my blog)

WoW, Amy, what a treat. I’ve listened to it three times, the first time without reading the words. I will come back for more. The whole song and poem fit so well together. I dig that style of piano playing, and wish I could do it: classically trained, me, which is hard to break out of and nowadays my fingers don’t work right.

Now this is simply LOVELY, Amy!! After reading this one, and before typing this somment, I simply HAD to go to my window to take a peek at Tioga moon… 🙂
A perfect tribute to that oh-so-perfect celestial body!! Too good!!
I get a feeling I am gonna be dreaming about Tioga moon tonight… heheheh
Sharp Little Pencil
I had a feeling this one would resonate with you, you little moonbeam! 😉

Oh.. and I forgot to add “A waaaaaaaaaaaarmmm welcome to One Shot Wednesday”!!! It’s awesome to see you here!! 🙂

Nice.
Did I ever mention that my grandmother used to own property in Owego? Of course, no one, save a Southern Tier kid, would know where Owego is.
Sharp Little Pencil
Just west of Apalachin, where Tioga Moon was inspired. Lived just over the Broome County line, but went to Vestal.
Laurie Kolp
That’s beautiful, Amy!

Thanks so much, Laurie…. waxing nostalgic, I guess… Amy

Amy, It was a delight to have you sing to me this morning. This is astounding. Thanks for your poetry, voice, and music. Your music is in me.

Your lyrical talent is obvious, Amy. Comfort and safety, familiarity and home are woven all through this piece. Now I want to hear you sing it!

Loved hearing you sing Amy, and Tioga Moon has a really great feel. I got my start writing poetry when I was 13 creating lyrics for my first band — “Little Ceasar & the Romans”. We did the tunes of the late 50’s early 60’s in that group. Lots of American Bandstand hits, early soul, Doo Wop, and South Philly ‘A Capella’. Loved the tight 4 and 5 part harmony. Gigged for 30 years. I’ve got some cherished tales about the road. Seems like you still do work, but I have gave it up 20 years ago. I’m so damned jealous.
At 64 I still have my voice – my baritone range is now richer and stronger while the top of my tenor range has become an excursion into mellow falsetto. Don’t have the endurance I once had because I don’t sing or practice regularly — but can I still draw a “Wow, you have a nice voice” if I’m goofing around at the occasional party.
However, I don’t have a network in place out here in the Pacific Northwest that affords me the opportunity to sing – because I never performed again after I moved here in 1990. All the players I performed with for 30 years, from age 13 – 43 are back in the midwest.
I don’t do the bar scene because diabetes dictates I no longer drink – besides, I’m an old fart… but gawd I love to sing and miss it dearly…! 😦

Sent you an email, Rob, but loved that you shared your story with all of us! Musicians never die… we just go out of style… 😦

Great. I’ll be using that Tioga moon for my blanket tonight. 🙂

Be my guest. It’s totally portable! Thanks, Berowne. Amy

Amy, I’m astonished there aren’t 20 admiring comments to this wonderful song. All awaiting approval? Are you OK? I keep having a listen to the song, and can now sing along a bit.
Sharp Little Pencil
I admit I was a little behind on approving comments this week. Perhaps some folks didn’t want to go to another link to hear the song. Wow, you’re learning it? I may post one a month or something, just to keep the music-lyrics-poetry connection alive and kicking. I’m very flattered by your comment, thanks so much! A
Yousei Hime
Oooo! Is that you on piano too? What fun! A real toe-tapping, head-nodding, dreamy-smiling blues. Was it suppose to cut off before the end 😦 ? Thank you so much for sharing the link. Let me know when you have something new up.
Sharp Little Pencil
It cut off before the end? DRAT! Thanks for alerting me, Yousei. Glad you liked the song, and yes, that one was me on piano as well as vocals. I played piano bars for years! Amy
Blossom Dreams
Amy – you have a GREAT voice!! 😉 Wow, you be talented girl! xx
PS – that tune is gonna stay with me all day xx
Sharp Little Pencil
Awwwww, thanks, Blossom! Very sweet of you to say that! xx Amy

Amy, I too have been catching up. It’s been busy; getting close to the end of another school year. And then problems with Blogger threw me off, so I’m catching up with posts I haven’t read yet. Loved the song; thanks for the link. I was thinking about buying your chapbook; now I want your CD too. I agree with Viv; there should be a whole bunch of comments here.

From your lips to God’s ears, Richard, as I am self-employed and don’t actually make money these days. Bursitis killed all my piano bar options for the moment! Writing, occasionally singing, and reading at open mics are my only outlets…. Yours, Amy
