Creation Circles
Circling dew-drenched winds
Particles settle, drawn into a core
Water seeps over to shore
and upward to the clearing sky
A sphere, then
Slowing moving, a circular wholeness takes shape
Revolving, arcing around a star
as other spheres form
In the waters, moving creatures differentiate
Unique beings, yet still part of the whole
They swim, consume, reproduce
as nature will allow
Some beings are drawn to the shore lines,
dwelling near coral reefs for eons
until fins lengthen, gills morph into lungs,
and land beckons them to a new home.
They reproduce as they did in the sea:
Those with penises plunge into waiting wombs;
babes pop from the penetrated and drink milk
from that parent’s body as they learn to live.
Some come to shore without gender.
They adapt as they must to continue the species.
Some beings take to the air, darting into water
to devour their forgotten cousins.
There is a Creator of all this fecund beauty
Whether it is Nature or God or Gaia or a
legend born of necessity to explain the world…
We will only know when we leave this place
Once there was a void of intermixed, intermittent
molecular flotsam floating, flung far and near
Now there is something so ancient, so precious,
all humans do is fight about where it came from
But I know this much…
It is and
it is beautiful and
it is worth preserving for as long as we deserve it

worth preserving
regardless of whether we deserve anything =)
reminds me of the Tao Te Ching and the ten thousand things =)
Sharp Little Pencil
I agree with your point of view, Lucy. But I confess, I have to read up on the Tao Te Ching and learn about it!
pandamoniumcat
Agree with you there…wherever it came from it is beautiful. Interesting read, I like it…:)
Sharp Little Pencil
It’s all kind of a moot point, after all. It is. We are. ‘Nuff said! Thanks for stopping! Amy

I love the way this poem evolves – very clever.
The last stanza spoke most to me.
Sharp Little Pencil
THanks so much, Linda!
miskmask
I enjoyed this telling of an earthy-soup of beings sharing our planet with us. Delightful. Well done, Amy.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks so much, Misk. The other one was snarky, for sure…! Mischief R Us.

Lovely stream of conscious thoughts made this a delightful read, Amy.

Sharp Little Pencil
Thank you so much, Pamela. I’m not usually one for these ethereal poems, but I wrote just before going to sleep. I think I must let go of my cynical self just before dreams… A

Yes, it is there and it is beautiful indeed.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thank you, Peggy. Glad you stopped by! Amy

Oh Amy ! This is by far your best i think !
I so so was entranced by this .. I read it more than twice !
Wow !!
Sharp Little Pencil
Really – twice? I’m amazed by the response to this poem. It’s so unlike my usual work. The trick is to write just before falling asleep for me. The mind in the process of letting go… Thanks so much, Nimue! Amy
Debbie
What a wonderful creation you have made, in a poem about creation! Thank you, Amy!
Sharp Little Pencil
Thank you, Debbie. Neither of these are in keeping with literal Biblical translation, but I have a hard time with that version… you know how I am!! Love, Amy

Oh man. I have no words (it’s a good thing, promise). I would list the things I love about this, but then I would have to quote the whole thing.
xoxo
(okay maybe one: “intermixed, intermittent/ molecular flotsam floating, flung far and near” 😀 love it)
Sharp Little Pencil
This is one of the best comments I’ve had in a while, Bee. Bless you for that~especially because it was an earnest attempt at writing toward the more ethereal, and I’ve a very literal poet. Thanks, hon, Amy

I keep coming back to re-read this. It is fascinating – and beautiful. The last stanza gave me pause – it seemed to be part of a different poem. It is very disquieting how mankind in its greed and carelessness spoils our planet. I was reading about the pollution caused by unthinking release of hundreds of balloons, many of them arriving in the ocean.
Sharp Little Pencil
The balloon piece has always bugged me, too. Supposed to be a sign of hope; released at many friends’ memorial services in the 80s; made of toxic latex, and capable of drowning all sorts of animals. Ah, the petrochemical industry.
Besides, you know I am practically incapable of tying things up with a happy ending…!

I like this piece so much, Amy, and agree with what it says wholeheartedly.
I have an ecelectic belief system and the universe of living things may be a mystery but that is the essence of creation. Nicely written and expressed!
Sharp Little Pencil
Renee, I know we share a lot of those views. Funny thing is, I’m a follower of Jesus, but also follow the teachings of the Buddha, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and many quantum scientists and others who have theories that range from string theory (which I barely grasp) to time/space continuum… it’s all about the love, really. Thanks for a thoughtful comment! Peace, Amy
Madeleine Begun Kane
Lovely! Your poems are so … pardon the expression … creative. 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Ha, you got me there! Thanks, Mad! 😉
Mr. Walker
Amy, this is as heartfelt as the other one is snarky. I read the other one first, making my way up the posts at WWP backwards. A beautiful ending(?) in that last stanza.

Thank you so much, RIchard. You know, the ethereal writing doesn’t come easily to me, so I was gratified that so many folks liked this one. I’ll hop over and see you next! Peace, Amy

Ethereal is a very appropriate description for this poem, Amy. As I do frequently, I listen to new age music while reading your poetry. This one beckoned me to have ambient electronic new age floating through, which perfectly timed out well with many passages in this piece.
