GRASS
To legalize or not to legalize pot?
That is the question I was sort of
pondering while preparing a
killer omelette this morning after
imbibing my usual cup of coffee that’s
so strong you can stand a spoon up in it.
Now, the secret of my omelettes
is in the herbs…. when they’ve been dried
you toss them in after the chopped onion
and garlic are just beginning to sizzle and
that opens up their flavor, their savor,
and their real power.
Then the rest, the squash, the whatever is
residing in your crisper and not all
squishy and globbed from the humidity
man it is hot outside and even the A.C.
won’t keep the molecular damp from
seeping through the cracks and crevices and
oh, yeah, the omelette. So last thing, you add your
favorite cheese, but what really turns my creation
into a work of art is not the presentation because
it usually falls apart before it hits the plate, and
I’m like, you’re just gonna chew it up anyway,
what’s the big deal about presentation?
Cheese. Cheeeeeese. Oh yeah. Wisconsin aged
cheddar we get at the co-op, so dry it crumbles.
But if you get off on brie or swiss, like the song says,
Love the One You’re With.
So anyway, I finished my omelette and booted up
the puter and the Poets United prompt was GRASS!
How fortuitous! Coincidence?
I THINK NOT. It was simply the universe
whispering in my ear about
sharing my love of creative cooking!
What a grooved-out day to daydream (too!) about my
lovely brunch (I got up pretty late today) and
the secret of its blissful herbalicious goodness…
Bon appétit. Buen provecho. Happy eating, y’all!

I love ‘throw in everything but the kitchern sink’ omelettes – may I have some of yours?
Sharp Little Pencil
Only if you promise not to drive home. Grass, right? LOL
MiskMask
Aaah. Cooking. And omelettes are so much fun! Cooking’s so creative and relaxing and intoxicating and fulfilling. And filling, of course. I’ve been baking up loaves of various bread recently. Cooking, by the way, is one of my favourite hobbies. Did you know that about me?
Sharp Little Pencil
Ah, but did you catch the scent of the special herb? Hmmmm, cannabis!!
No, I didn’t know you love cooking and baking. That’s a great quality, I think.
I love cooking and grilling – my husband makes the BEST oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, plus yummy apple pie. I have no breadbaking skills to speak of and would love to learn! Amy
Eric
Can’t beat a good omelet.
Great way to use up leftovers too! (My favorite way: Spaghetti omelet!)
Sharp Little Pencil
Yes, but MY omelettes have that extra special ingredient – did you catch the prompt, grass? LOL
Laurie Kolp
Sounds like a yummy breakfast. Funny that you were thinking about weed and then this was the prompt.
Sharp Little Pencil
Hah, wish we could make brunch together sometime and have other bloggers come by to say… HI!
booguloo
Sounds good.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thought you’d like it!
bmiller007

Sharp Little Pencil

dani
hmmmm… omelettes, huh? nice change from brownies. {grin}
Sharp Little Pencil
Ah, Dani, you were one of the few to really get to the heart of the matter. Even the best roses start with… a bud! (wink) Amy
Poets United
Nice…you took our topic and went with it.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks so much. Glad so many other old stoners are on Poets United, LOL! Amy
Old Ollie
Never tried this cooking method…or poetry method.
Thanks SLP!
Sharp Little Pencil
Well, once you try it, the advantage is, it really isn’t habit-forming. Some say omelettes are a gateway food, but I never listen!! Amy
Bodhirose
Well, I just love this–on so many levels! Your omelette recipe sounds so delicious–it must be those fresh herbs that you use. And how cool is it that your prompt today was grass–coincidence–no, I don’t believe in those!
Sharp Little Pencil
I’m not a coincidence kind of girl. But you already knew that, ha ha ha! A

like you know, like, man, i thought, like, nah, she, like wouldn’t be, ya know talkin’ about POT, would she? man, she like really was. dig it, dig it.
Sharp Little Pencil
and it’s like, hey, rog, you know, over near the big clock at 4:20!!
christine
interesting how that happens, we have a thought and it connects in the cosmos somewhere else, your omelet sounds fantastic
Sharp Little Pencil
And of course, this would be the topic that resonates… or is that resin-ates?! Hey, I cook a mean omelette, and truthfully, the effects are much longer lasting than alternate methods of… well, you know!
Old Egg
What I loved about this was your capitalized answer to the pot question “GRASS…I THINK NOT.” You got us on a high with your killer omelette so who needs anything more…Oops again! Old Egg here was all smug at working it out and you let me down with your comment above about your special ingredient. I had better stick to dancing.
Sharp Little Pencil
Hey, I just don’t want to break YOUR egg to make the omelette! Killer… love that adjective, and believe me, it lasts longer than any Sinatra doobedoobedoo will!!
kaykuala
An omelette, however way you whip it up is a fun dish especially for the single guy. I used to splay them up with onions, chillies or what have you. It is a simple dish at its best. You can throw in grass (cannabis) as well? I’ve been told it emits a nauseous aroma.
Sharp Little Pencil
Not if you keep the heat down… and have decent cannabis to start with. Anything that smokes stinky will cook stinky. Stinkily. You know what I mean! You do not need much, and adding a touch of fresh basil helps the aroma as well.
My, I had no idea how many chefs were on board here!! Oh, and I went on the Rainbow site, commented on your “grass” piece, and you know what my Captcha code was? “FREAKEAT”!! Unbelievable!
Peace, Amy
Susannah
I really enjoyed this Amy! Hopefully as much as you enjoyed the omelette. 😉
A great read!
PS. I don’t think that your link to this is showing up at poets united? Check it out, as it may not have gone through.

Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Susannah, will do. I know I put a link in the comments section, but I’ll edit my post to make sure the trackback is there. Appreciate your thoughtfulness! Amy
Wings over waters
Now I’m hungry! lol …wonderful write…thanks so much for your lovely comment. 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Right back atcha. Love meeting all these new poets! Glad you got the munchies just from reading… 🙂 Amy
amy trumble
You know I was GOING to write about this! But I thought my generation would disown me for knowing what “grass” is. 😉 Eh, let-em, I get sick of those buggers anyhow. You should submit this as an editorial. I love it.
Sharp Little Pencil
Yeah, like I need more clippings in my FBI file, LOL! Thanks for the thought, though! Actually, we recently lost one of our premier marijuana legalization advocates… Too bad I can’t take over. My husband would get kicked out of his pulpit, LOL. Thanks, Amy, from “Other Amy”
Sherry Blue Sky
I LOVE this stream of consciousness (sort of) poem. Love the asides, and the remembering you’re off-topic……..very humorous. I was right there, grinning.
Sharp Little Pencil
THANKS! That was exactly the effect I was going for. I knew you’d hook onto that stream… (and yes, “sort of” is correct, ha ha). Thanks, Sherry. Peace, Amy
Altonian
I KNEW IT, before I read a line! Oh, you devil you – beats my black pepper, rough ground. But I am mostly interested in the cheese – I was glad you use aged cheddar. We use Cathedral City Mature, from England, it’s not the best there is, but it’s the best there is in Finland. The best there is, is made on a farm near Alton, by hand, and is aged three years before being sold. Serious WOW!
Sharp Little Pencil
Oh, Leigh, I could talk about cheese all day… especially if I was stoned, ha ha ha. Actually, your rough ground black pepper sounds scandalously good! Someday we’ll sit down with a cuppa and talk it all over… Peace, Amy
Andrew
A beautifully blissed-out herbalicious concoction! The best chefs NEVER give out their secret ingredient! 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
The prompt gave it away for me, LOL. Glad you like my home cookin’! Thanks, Andrew, and peace, Amy
coalblack
why have i never seen this on paula deen?
Sharp Little Pencil
Can you IMAGINE Paula Deen – or how about Martha Stewart? YOWZA!!!! Ha ha, Amy
liv2write2day
Oh, this is so much fun. I love the random stream of consciousness and the grass connection. Too clever, great voice.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Liv. I’m glad you grooved on it! Peace, Amy
Bodhirose
Did you get my comment, Amy?
Sharp Little Pencil
Um, was it emailed or here? I’ve answered all comments that were pending… email me, sharplittlepencil.wordpress.com, thanks, hon! Amy
Ella
I now am craving an omelet 😀 Your love of cheese is one I share~ I love to bake, too…
Love the addition of your spice, pondering thoughts while on the routine of day!
It was meant to be~I enjoyed it!
Sharp Little Pencil
The moment I saw the prompt was “grass,” I knew my favorite spice would be given a hardy HUZZAH! (wink) Amy
David King
Wisconsin aged
cheddar ?
Okay, I’ll let that pass for the very great pleasure that the poem gave me. A great response to the prompt.
Sharp Little Pencil
Well, David, we moved to Madison this past January and I’ve discovered an aged cheddar that is so dry, it crumbles, and I’ll tell you, the bite it gives any dish is addictive! Thanks, Amy
