Trick… or Treat?
He sort of eyed her ‘cross the bar
“Have we met?” he pretended
She went along – good-looking guy
His line was comprehended
They went to her place that same night
In heat, their bodies blended
At dawn, he left her fifty bucks
Hoped she’d not be offended

Buddah Moskowitz
Funny – did she give him a receipt? – Mosk
(btw – did you get my order for your book? I sent it last week and have been waiting for it!)
Sharp Little Pencil
On its way, Buddah, sorry. Had to get a new run printed! But there’s a special note inside for your besides the inscription, because after all, you’re family!
She wasn’t awake. I imagine she assumed it was romance and was pissed when she found the fifty – then went out with friends for a splurge dinner with margaritas!! Ameleh
booguloo
Great sense of humor. smiles..

Glad you caught the “trick” part of this, Michael. Knew I could count on you to catch the wink!! Amy
kaykuala
Gosh, relationships have a price, no doubt about it! Short and crisp! Great verse, Amy!
Hank
Sharp Little Pencil
Ha, the price… and the price… hmmm, something to think about. Thanks, Hank! Amy

Oh, ouch. The ending almost made me wince. Nice one, Amy.

It’s the nature of the backwardness of the American approach to love. First sex, then if you have something in common, perhaps love? Whatever happened to friendship?
And yes, the ending was hard for me to write, because his assumption probably wasn’t hers… Thanks, Marilyn! Amy

Well, there’s a spin and not expected. Sometimes these situations feel a bit more horrific than more lauded monsters’ carnage.
Sharp Little Pencil
Well, I was already sick of Halloween, and the word “trick” didn’t escape my worldly little mind… so there you go! Thanks for visiting – off to see you now! Peace, Amy
Richard Cody
Did that include a tip?
Sharp Little Pencil
Yeah: “Don’t pick up a stranger and think he has romance or commitment on his mind…” One-night stands, for whatever reason, are highly overrated!! Amy
Mary
Sad about the money really. One should not pay for love.
Sharp Little Pencil
I agree. And yet one pays in too many ways – loss of self-esteem because it’s really about sex, all sorts of diseases to be caught, and unintended pregnancy (I once got pregnant on the Pill but miscarried).
Nothing is 100% guaranteed. But my poor heart wonders what happened to friendship first. I made the cart-before-the-horse mistake with my former husband, but Lex and I were friends first and will always be, plus we have spiritual values in common. No fifties on MY dresser, thank you! Peace, Mary – Amy
Renee
Lovely post, dear Amy, and you are quite right…Trick of Treat! NIce play on words.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Renee. When I saw the word “Trick,” I couldn’t help myself. Then “Treat,” and the deal was sealed! Amy
brian miller
i kinda chuckled then winced…and thought that was probably not a good idea….
Sharp Little Pencil
You, sir, are a man of conscience. Bravo! (Incidentally, I often chuckle and then wince at certain TV shows!) Amy
Old Ollie
this poem will be memorable – you are an original – stay that way!
Sharp Little Pencil
Ollie, thanks. I don’t know how to be anything other than myself, so I guess we’re safe! Bless you – Amy

Edward Fraser
Ha, nice!

Always wonder what the men will think of these types of poems. Thanks for the affirmation, Edward! And thanks for stopping by… I’m coming over now… Amy
