Fall Moves In (a lament)
A hearty breeze brings
a shower of shattered shedlings
scattered on the lawn
At dawn, slippery, slothful
lying low; sunup warms and
wakes them to crunchcrackle delight
Within the crowd, can you see?
Lost souls… no tree to shelter them
Fodder for the loathsome length
of punishing, pewter-sky winter

More artwork from me, drawn this time for the theme of the poem.
I already have a head start on the winter blues.
Lots of you know what I mean, and I’ll take on the subject of “holly jolly consumerism” later on.
The thought gave birth to verse and art, so I guess something good came out of it!

I do understand the winter blues. I hate the lack of light in winter. I don’t think I have SAD in the true sense of the word, but lack of sunlight can really have an effect on my mood. As far as “within the crowd…lost souls….no trees to shelter them” this makes me think of the times I myself have felt lonelier in a crowd than in some solitary place! I like your art, Amy!
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks for all the encouragement, Mary. I’m a little shy about the art because I’m new at it, although a veteran doodler. You understand the concept of Winter Blues or SADD or whatever they call it this week… it’s that time of year. We’d better book a lot of comedies at the local library! A

def a heavy dose of the winter blah’s in this one…i like the turn in the end to recognizing those lost in the crowd…def the compassion there…and i like the sounds of the first part of this amy…i like the crispness of fall…

Punishing pewter grey sky – I love it -just what we have today – and the crunchcrackle, conjures up that lovely skipping-in-the-dry-leaves experience of childhood. Fabulous poem, fun to read and technically very clever! and the alluding to the grey moods….

Wonderfully done Amelita! Yes, winter is approaching and just like the punishing cold that comes the lost souls are again open to abuse and ridicule from those with the means and money to cause mischief. Great write!

Though you paint a picture that is none too inviting you do it beautifully and I love your artwork

the sense of foreboding at the coming season fills this poem… I think similar thoughts… it seems the older I get the more I dread those dark winter months….

Ah yes, grey skies, naked trees, winter chill, short days, and add to that the season of consumer insanity. It has always been my fantasy to vacation in a Muslim country from November to January, thus skipping the whole hoopla. The older I get the more I dread the cold that leads to achy bones and icy sidewalks. SIGH

Reminds that winter is approaching and we should now get ready!!

I actually like the color pewter … but I know what you mean by grey skys. Northern Michigan would so dark all winter long – here in NC I almost like it as the trees around my house drop there leaves and I have MORE light. Hugs – hope you paint the inside of your house a nice muted yellow – or something that cheers you up. (Did you meant to post this to Kerry’s challenge? I don’t’ think you did )

The drawing is good, ditto the poem. I put my summer clothes away yesterday.

Your talents seem endless. Luck us. Lovely drawing and poem. I always keep one or two summery tops in the closets just to remind me that this gloom is not forever.

I used to get the Winter Blues in UK but here in Dubai I get Summer Dread instead. I always loved Autumn though. It’s like Spring in that it is a period of change. Winter is the ending, Summer is the middle. But Spring and Autumn introduce movement.
I love your lament though; just a few words to conjure a period of time and the emotion it brings.

Well written Amy, like both the language and alliteration,
