First, apologies to all who comment and have to wait for moderation. My last posting was invaded by vendors in the comments, so back to the drawing board (sorry, Mary! I know you like to see your comments posted). Someday, we will wrangle this digital world; in the meantime, spammers run it. We just live in it. And now for a look at the man behind all the gay-bashing and LGBT arrests. Vlad, methinks thou protesteth too much…
Pimping the Olympics
Yay! Way to fatten
Putin’s pockets
Plus private security
tho’ LGBT “inferiority”
is policed to a polish
Don’t get me started on
Elton’s gig; he and David
could shtoop on the steps
of the Kremlin, but Russian
gays are jailed every day
Could Russia BE more hostile
while playing host to the
world’s athletes? Gay or straight?
Do the math: Pocketful of zloti
for self-loathing Vladi

Vladimir Putin is a great example of “I want to bare my (pretty disgusting) physique for all to admire, but gay men with six-packs and lesbians who could take me in three rounds should all go to jail.” He is a pathetic closet case, if you ask me. I said months ago we should boycott these Olympics when the laws against LGBT people were being passed, but then again, we also appeared in China… our athletes wore clothes MADE in Chinese sweat shops. The Olympics have become a pit of corruption. I’m skipping this year… NBC won’t show the Canadian curling anyway. Peace, Amy

Ha ha ha, I did Google it. I remember that Australian Olympics (ironic, huh?) because I learned the term “coin slot” and I couldn’t stop laughing. Every time I see a man who is “too big for his britches,” literally, and he stoops and that crack appears, all I can think of is sticking a quarter in there! Thanks for the laugh, Robin.

omg,Vladimir “nipples” Putin..yuko
He exudes such a sense of satisfied smugness..a true narcissist with ideals of sociopathic grandeur … replace syrup of Ipecac with his ugly countenanced poster and there would be 100% efficacy with the results.
Isn’t it amazing how the most debauched ,corrupt human fecal matter of the world just rise and float and assume positions of power;whether they are voted in by crooked polls or through strong-arm tactics…the good and just have no chance.
Yeah, I am not going to view any part of the Olympics and have not for the reasons you list ,Amy. Corrupted and just another venue to foist the commercial hype on the viewers while the regular ,little people of the hosting nation are swept aside and buried under all the glitz. Same old ,same old playbook from the hegemonic aristocracy. There is no celebration here as the athletes are turned into bill boards for corporations.

Finally catching up here! Sheila, sister from another mother, this is so true. The Olympics have strayed from the friendly competition between countries to the howls of “U!S!A!” at everything from hockey to golf… and all the commercialism. It’s Christmas in February!! Those women from Pussy Riot went through hell, but what about the gay man coming out of a friend’s apartment getting trashed by cops on the street? It’s all disgusting. Nothing to celebrate. Thanks for the Democracy Now links; I urge all readers to follow those. Peace and a DVD, Amy

He is a slimeball. Not sure I agree with you about his physique, but isn’t it interesting that he loves to show it off so much? There is a whole site dedicated to homoerotic pix of Putin: One has him in drag; others shirtless on horseback. He’d better be careful, cuz his boobs are starting to sag! You are right: too powerful to be bothered is an excellent observation. Thanks, Hank. Glad to be back. Amelita

I am really not enthusiastic about the games this year! Sochi was SUCH a poor choice. Usually I am excited about the games. I am sorry that Billy Jean King won’t be there as part of the official US delegation because her mother is seriously ill!! I thought it was a BRILLIANT move to choose her…an ‘in-your-face move’ to Putin!
Sharp Little Pencil
February 7, 2014 at 6:35 pm
Mary, thanks for commenting, sorry about comment moderation. Sochi may prove to be dangerous for the athletes, as there are reports of too much money going to bribes and not enough spent on good courses. There were three “out” LGBT folks in the delegation, and I agree, it’s too bad Billie Jean can’t be there. But family first, and I admire her for that. It also speaks volumes that the president refused to send any members of his family, as this is tradition that goes back a long way. He did it in protest of the gay/lesbian jailing policies. I was proud of him for that, even though he’s becoming kind of lunkheaded in his policies. AMy

Yeah, too long… thanks for coming by. I’ve not been posting that often, you know why.
About the coming together of folks from all over… the commercialization and exploitation of the Olympics and the athletes sort of reminds me of contemporary Christmas, you know? I’m only worried about people getting hurt on the facilities, which are hardly up to Olympic standards, since so much of the money went to bribes. Corruption, but what can one expect in 2014? Amy

Sochi was a terrible choice. Appalling enough about the intolerance of gays, but they finished me off when they started killing all the homeless dogs to pretty up the streets for the Olympics. OMG. Some people are trying to save as many as they can, but hundreds have been killed, as far as I can make out online. Bad enough they have so many homeless dogs and no agency caring for them in the first place. Plus terrorist threats. Yikes. All the glitter in the world cant pretty up this mess.

February 10, 2014 at 11:20 pm
Amen to all your comments, Sherry. The dog video I saw broke my heart. There are some wonderful folks who built a shelter for as many dogs as possible, and they are neutering and spaying them; also, they are looking for adoptive families.
The terror threats… I think there are some people watching just to see something happen. I know that’s sick, but it’s the way these days. I just hope no one is hurt by the shoddy conditions of the streets and the courses in the Village, which apparently are not up to Olympic standards. GO CANADA! I saw some curling today, I admit it!

The photographs are hilarious. I will never understand why people are so judgmental. I’m watching the Olympics and noticed that t.A.T.u. performed in the opening ceremony. I’m not that familiar with them but my daughter liked them a lot and when she was home from college on visits (she’s 29 so some time ago) she showed me a video of them so I found it very baffling that a female duo that kissed on stage (although they just held hands at the Olympics) would be o.k. with the repressive measures Putin is taking towards LGBTs. I guess mixed messages are better than total homophobia but odd.

February 10, 2014 at 11:14 pm
Carver, they are a pseudo LGBT group, like a political statement or Mardi Gras. I’m glad they made a statement there. Besides, in every club nowadays, young women seem to think it’s cool to make out and attract the attention of potential men. I think it’s ludicrous, since these girls are objectifying themselves, but whatever. It’s the same logic that society uses by saying that posing nude is “empowering” and how people think women are prostitutes only because they are saving up for grad school. More like drug addicted and under the thumb of a pimp… Thanks, Carver. And PS I am being very judgmental about Putin, I suppose…

Ugh… You may be on to something, Amy. That man is despicable…a true narcissistic sociopath. He’s short too, right? That would explain a lot… I admit I’m torn about boycotting or keeping our competitors out of the games. They showed some footage, the first night of the Olympics, where Jimmy Carter was saying we would not be sending our athletes to the games (in 1980) and it was so devastating to them. If only we could keep politics out of this and just let it be an athletic competition. I think our athletes who went would like our support…but can we separate that from our feelings about human rights (or the lack of them) by this country? Something to ponder… You always make me ponder!
Sharp Little Pencil
February 10, 2014 at 10:58 pm
I felt early on that the US should boycott, but then I realized how many of our athletes are out and proud, so I crossed my fingers. And yes, Putana is a sociopath, you are right! There is no real right or wrong answer to boycotting in my opinion, but it IS a good thing to consider it. After all, Carter’s pulling out of the Olympics did not affect change in the USSR/Afghanistan conflict one bit. And now WE are fighting the guys we put into power… UGH. Thanks, hon. Amy

I’m in two minds about a boycott. I had thought that is what we should be doing in the light of the treatment of the LGBT community and then I heard a Russian of that community speaking . He was pleading with us not to boycott but be there and challenge Putin and his oppos. Maybe standing up is the way to go.
Love your post, thought provoking and funny re the closet gay who indeed doth protest too much!
All the best to you, Amy 🙂
