ABC Wednesday, brought to you by the letter “I.” No better time to remember the victims, both dead and slowly dying, in Sendai and other towns in Japan. No better time to rethink our “commitment” to nuclear power, an option that is doomed to fail us at some point. Remember Oppenheimer: “I am become death.” Remember Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Remember shirt designs tattooed onto human bodies. Remember Karen Silkwood (RIP). Remember GREED.
Most importantly: Remember, no man who owns a nuclear power plant has ever lived anywhere nearby. Amy
Isolation
Island, inland,
isotopes, infrared.
Indelible images on the Internet.
If it implodes
the industry, intended to provide
immense power (ideological and industrial)
will implode as well.
Iodine pills, dispersed like incoming radiation.
Imperious platitudes; empirical attitudes (inferred)
Impossible to end nuclear power?
I intend to work to that end, in spite of industry.

At Three Word Wednesday, the prompts were: Dainty, Haunting, and Tantalize. Took me days to get to this place… and not one I relish being in. But some things must be said. Amy
Desserts (3WW: Dainty, Haunting, Tantalize)
Petit fours, marzipan
Dainty cupcakes set
in a tantalizing row
each night for his consumption
Little girls on display
Sleeping delights to his watchful eye
This patisserie from Hell
is haunting me still

At Three Word Wednesday (AKA 3WW), the words were affinity, fidget, and mention. I’ll also post another after this one. Busy girl today!
Affinity for Coffee
My affinity for coffee is legend, Jack.
Since the age of 12 I’ve sipped it black.
My blue-eyed sisters said, with presumption,
My eyes turned brown ‘cause of my consumption.
(Of course, friends know the cause is less:
My brown eyes are from my B.S.)
And did I mention that without it,
I fidget during church? I doubt it.

ABC Wednesday, brought to you by the letter “G.” Silly and fun – what I imagine Blanche Laughlin would be if she were alive today – glued to my cousin Gregg’s computer! Amy
Grandma Googles
Goodness gracious,
Grandma’s gone Google!
Grinning before Greggie’s gizmo,
a grand gadabout without
the gas-guzzling Greyhound .
Grannie’s grey but full of ginger;
fingers glide with gusto as she
gets to tour the Guggenheim
in its glory and grandeur, gushing,
“Gracias, ye gods of gigabytes!”

At Three Word Wednesday, they gave us: Figure, Juicy, and Stress. (Wow, that could go in a lot of directions. Click the link and see what others have done!) Managed to combine it with ABC Wednesday, “brought to you by the letter F.” No, not THAT “F” word. Whattaya think, I’m that obvious? So, again, two prompts, one poem… from my third and “f”inal trip to the DMV with proper paperwork to secure my driver’s license! Amy
Finally Fit
Finally fit for the DMV
Forms filled out
Foto fixed (couldn’t forage the file from Friday. Go figure!)
No frustration, no fuss, stress–free
These folks, friendly and fine
Fruit-juicy satisfaction, this fact:
Finally, fully Wisconsinite!

EN-credible! I managed to combine two – count ’em – two prompts in one poem. Others do this all the time; however, I hadn’t had the inspiration until Three Word Wednesday and ABC Wednesday threw a nice, juicy grapefruit over the plate for me.
Three Word Wednesday gave us Blink, Kind, and Occasion; ABC concentrated on the letter E. Hence the bits in BOLD. Enjoy, and be sure to click on the links above to check out the takes of my fellow poets! Amy
The Ecstasy of Agony
An eclectic gathering, the occasion being
Ethelyn’s engagement to Egbert
(AKA Egghead behind his back)
Ethelyn, an exquisite, educated person.
What possessed her to choose entanglement
of the permanent kind to this egomaniac?
Savvier than we envisioned,
she eventually emptied her life of his eccentricities;
in the blink of an eye, single once more.
Then along came Edmund the entomologist…
