Sad to hear the Writer’s Island is sailing into the sunset soon, but grateful to Rob for his dedication and hard work over these years. He deserves not only a break, but HUZZAHS from all poets who have met each other online through his blog. Love you, Rob, and HAD to respond to one of the final prompts, “Incomparable,” with a pun. Peace, Amy
Income Parable
Two sisters, two misters
Two divergent types of wife
One Wall Street, one small street
Each to their own way of life
One greedy, e’er needy
Income never quite enough
So fancy, perchance she
might have done well with less “stuff”
Other sister and her mister
always seemed to have their share
Faith and love held above
the stocks and bonds, the truth or dare
First Recession, soon Depression
Sister One weeps over loss
Sister Two has no boo-hoo
when faith is strong, the World’s not boss

A super take on what could be several prompts… seems right on for Poetry Potluck as well… that the world ways do not revel in despotism.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks so much. It’s all about what one values most, isn’t it? Amy
Debbie
You and your poem are remark-able!!! 🙂 Thank you!
Sharp Little Pencil
Ha ha, thanks, Debbie, for picking up on the pun! Amy
vivinfrance
I always enjoy a good pun, and this one is really good!
Sharp Little Pencil
Ah, I know you do! Thanks, Viv! Amy
Irene
A parable indeed in a shaky economy.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Irene. It’s actually a true story, but the names were omitted to protect folks from being embarrassed! Amy
Elizabeth J
Enjoyed your take on this prompt, Amy. Always up for a pun, and yours brought both a smile and a reminder of truth. The “World’s not boss” indeed!
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Elizabeth. It’s a true story, too. The World is always telling us (via the boob tube) that we need plasma screens in every room. We had to get a new TV – the first in years, since all ours have been given to us by friends – and they only had plasmas. We got a small one. The salesman told us these are great because the sound comes out the bottom. When I asked why, he told me, “So you can mount it on your bedroom wall.” I told him the day we need more than one TV, let alone one in our bedroom, is the day we need marriage counseling!!! ha ha
Sherry Blue Sky
Very cool and witty! Love the “income parable!”
Sharp Little Pencil
That was from my incorrigible love of puns…! Thanks, Sherry! A
tigerbrite
Great poem with a strong message.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Tiger. Figured that, given our economy, the theme was apt. True story. Peace, Amy
Laurie Kolp
Amy- Cute and with a powerful message… love the ending!
Sharp Little Pencil
True story, no less. Thanks, Laurie! Amy

Like this, Amy. I see we were on the same wavelength with this prompt. I have been reading a lot about Ayn Rand. I must say that woman was the epitome of evil in my opinion. Calling the working class “parasites” and her godless outlook is just appalling.
Pamela ox
Sharp Little Pencil
Yes, we agree, my friend. I know folks who think Ayn Rand was a genius, and she certainly was a good writer, but her philosophy is strictly the “I’ve Got Mine” school of thought. These same jerks are accusing Wisconsin teachers of being “leeches” for wanting retirement benefits and collective bargaining rights.
I don’t have a problem with atheism at all, other than when it’s obnoxious (just as Christianity in its most demonstrative forms can be obnoxious). Rand also was active in Hollywood anti-Communist groups during the Red Scare witchhunts of the 50s and willingly testified for Sen. Joe McCarthy’s HUAC. This credential alone makes her persona non grata in my personal book. We ARE our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Ayn Rand! Thanks, Pamela – sorry, couldn’t open your site to view your work. New rules? Amy
beespoetry
That was awesome Amy! Fun with a pun is number one 😉
I love those internal rhymes- auditory heaven!
beespoetry
Actually, the whole poem is auditory and literary heaven
Sharp Little Pencil
Bee, you are too kind. I was just groovin’ on the pun, frankly! Ha ha, A
Renee Espriu
A different kind of ‘beat’ but nicely done and flows well. You certainly had your groove on,
as they say.
Sharp Little Pencil
Hey, Mama, I’m a groovin’ girl! (ha ha) But I did try to keep that sense of rhythm going, so I’m glad you felt it worked. Thanks! Amy
Chris Sapp
Wish I could think of the song that reminded me of…this really flowed and made me laugh a bit. I will be back to enjoy some more soon.

Thanks so much, Chris, and welcome! What song… I’ll think about it. And yes, if we cannot laugh about today’s economy, we’re just gonna start to cry, so let’s chuckle! Amy
Mr. Walker
Amy, so much fun. And it looked very form-ish. Aren’t those quatrains rhymed abcb? (Just giving you a hard time). I love the title, definitely punny, and how you got faith in there too – as incomparable. Thanks.
Richard
Sharp Little Pencil
Richard, don’t you go and get me started on the forms, LOL. Glad you enjoy a good pun! Thanks so much, Amy
Jingle
super brilliant.
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Jingle! Amy
