Weirdos In Living Color
Pondering life, parsing a Wordle
at my local locally owned café
Out the window, saw a weirdo
Headed over Starbucks way
Reet suit, silk tie, plus a gadget
dangled on his ear, he talked to it
Rhythm on the street was financial
I could tell – he walked to it
People in hats lug large boxes
with handles they clutch tight as breath
Talking so fast ‘bout Wall Street, K Street
Talking fast as a dealer on Meth
Where’re they going? What’s the rush?
Why is Rush a god and God replaced
by Sunday crosswords, fancy brunch
What’s the point of all their haste?
I’m content with three hots and a cot
Better still, a rabbit-eared TV
Come watch parades of Armani lemmings
dive off a cliff so willingly

Love that ending with Armani lemmings. ( Well, don’t love that it’s happening, but that you thought of it! )

That was a synapse firing off a little image. I have lots of those. Probably why the medication helps, ha ha ha ha. Love, Amy

I do so love ‘people watching’ and the fact they are probably watching me as well. Maybe that is why I got a degree in Sociology. LOL
Sharp Little Pencil
It’s a two-way street, right, Renee? As long as they are not “eying you with bad intent” (Tull). I figured that somebody needed to call the “straights” the weird ones, and RJ agreed!

Amy,
The rat race for us to see. The youngsters making a kill. The weidos tagging along. A rough road now though! ‘Occupy Wall St’ and all the hoo-haa. Things going to be tough and boisterous!

It’s gonna get a whole lot messier, too… here’s a link to my latest addressing exactly that: https://sharplittlepencil.wordpress.com/2011/10/29/ballad-of-the-one-percenter-political-poetry/
Thanks for coming by, Hank! Amy

I wonder how much has progressed since we used rabbit ears, societally.
Sharp Little Pencil
Lots more wires cluttering our floors. More bills coming in our doors. Fewer choices of quality drama on networks. One must now pay to see almost anything of worth.
Ralph Nader reminds us time and time again that the public airwaves are FREE and networks should all be non-commercial. NBC, etc., should be paying into the tax pool for using the airwaves. Amy

Life is a little weird… and sitting in a coffee shop is one of the best ways to savor slices and snippets. Now I want to to down to Le Buzz!

Everyone has their favorite haunt, no? Mine is called Manna. It’s about a half mile down the road – a good stretch of the legs, really – and the music is always soft enough to “listen past,” you know, you don’t need to put on noise-cancelling headphones! I go a lot of poem writing there. On Sundays and Wednesdays in particular (also two on Thursday), I write down all prompts, then see what unravels through my pen onto the page. Love it! Amy

Great little poem, Sharp Little Pencil. I loved it. The poem is fantastic. I owe a lot to the capitalistic world we live in. We all do. It is how we all make our living. However, I do miss my own little television and the rabbit ears.
Thanks for the walk back.

Dear Tim, thanks for visiting. We owe the capitalistic world what we owe, in the form of bills; however, I feel that there are meaningful things government could do with our tax dollars, such as end the war and provide health care for those who are suffering. I know a couple who had to move into their van because of medical bills.
Until money is out of the equation in politics – and the Supremes take back their ridiculous notion that corporations are people (which means, I suppose, that they can marry, even though thousands upon thousands of gay and lesbian Americans are denied the privilege), we are all in the thrall of the richest one percent, headed for oligarchy. Stay vigilant, Tim! Amy

There they go!

Don’t let the door hit them in the wallet on their way out, LOL.

This is brilliant. You’re absolutely right about the weirdness of those financial types!
Sharp Little Pencil
If you took their money and laptops away, they’d be lost. What a shame; what a waste! Thanks, Viv. Amy

This is great Amy, very thought provoking. I love these lines “Why is Rush a god and God replaced, by Sunday crosswords, fancy brunch”. “Why is Rush a god”, brilliant!!! I don’t quite understand the “Armani lemmings” other than it may be something happening on your side of the world. Excellent poem 🙂
Sharp Little Pencil
Thanks, Norma. The Armani lemmings are simply guys in Armani (or other expensively dressed young men) following the next trend. If you catch the movie, “Margin Call,” you’ll get the jumping off cliff part. They follow each other like lemmings… but who’s leading them? And yes, it’s part of American Wall Street, which you will understand a great deal more if you see the move, an actual depiction of the downfall of Lehman Brothers and its after effects on the American people (the regular folks, like me)). What a great twirl of thoughts. I think the new God most folks seem to worship now is Money.
Great insight turned into a good read, thanks.
Sharp Little Pencil
People have a bird over taking “In God We Trust” off our currency. Come on. God doesn’t give a crap about finances, only taking care of those who DON’T have the money! Thanks for your thoughts! Peace, Amy

I was pulled in by the title, Amy, as I am drawn to weird folk:) and enjoyed the poem very much…..especially the lemmings……we seem to have a planet full of them these days.
Sharp Little Pencil
Oh, baby, you nailed it for sure. The original title was “Weirdos on Parade,” but the living color seemed to bring it home more.
I’ve always been considered weird… my year book is full of reference to my “weirdness,” but I’ve had a spectacularly fun, unconstrained life and my bipolar can only enhance, LOL. Love, Amy
